COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL COACHING (CBC) helps you to identify and remove psychological blocks that impede the execution of goal directed activities. In the last ten years, mounting evidence has gathered (Grant et al 2008) to show the long term benefits of this type of coaching.
How does it work?
Initially, we meet and clarify the issues you are facing and which specific element you wish to explore. I would then offer you a safe confidential space to explore the issue in more detail. Over the course of typically 6 sessions, certain unhelpful thinking styles may arise that we can challenge and review weekly.
There are a wide range of different methods available that incorporate both Cognitive Behavioural and Solution focused methods of working. It is characteristically a collaborative process and predominantly non-directive. My role is encourage attention to your own self efficacy so that week by week you have the tools to self coach. Sessions last an hour. I am a member of the following bodies: ISCP, AOC and ILM, AICTP.
As a psychotherapist, I am able to offer a comprehensive assessment and therefore well positioned to identify more complex psychological issues.
Coaching Testimonials
‘I am writing to thank you for your recent excellent work in coaching four of my teachers.
I was excited by the potential of the six week CBC programme when you initially explained it to me. However, it fair to say, I had a few reservations too about the process and how my teachers would respond!
Due to your thorough preparation, organisation and professionalism the programme has run smoothly over the course of this half-term and the outcomes are very positive. I am confident that the intensive coaching provided has already made a big difference to the teachers, and this was shown in the final feedback session I attended. By working with these colleagues to identify their weaknesses and then allowing them to find and develop solutions themselves, I believe the programme has the potential for long lasting improvements in their professional performance.
Should the need arise, I would be happy to recommend your services to other schools’. (M.A. Head Teacher Felpham Community College (October 2013)
‘Working with Life coach Louise Shuttleworth, the initial goal was to ‘Sort my life out’ in 8 weeks. Self-confidence issues quickly emerged and working together using CBT tools ‘I’m stupid’ quickly changed to ‘I’m a trier’ Louise was able to quickly adapt as my life threw up new challenges by shifting session goals, whilst linking back to underlying issues.
My lack of self-confidence was strongly linked with poor work productivity and a tendency to float through life. Louise challenged my cherished identity as a free spirit suggesting how it might be holding back my potential to work effectively. With her help I was able to set clear work objectives and intentions for the day/week or to a deadline, working together on time management, setting boundaries and using smart goals. We also looked at how perfectionist tendencies were impacting my creativity and productivity. I found Louise to be highly intelligent, her methods easily accessible and practical. I now feel I’m a person who can achieve my goals, who gets things done whilst retaining my free spirit. Thank you Louise ‘
