Adoption support for families in East Sussex
Adoption support for families in East Sussex helps parents and children understand difficult interactions and the effects of loss or earlier care experiences on relationships. As a LINK adoption counsellor and Full DDP Practitioner, I explore trust, closeness and what a child’s behaviour may communicate. Support can involve parents, a child or joint sessions, with the format shaped around readiness and need. We also consider any professionals already involved so responsibilities are clear. Work takes place in Brighton and online where suitable.

Starting with the family you are now
You may have received support earlier in the adoption process and find that different questions have appeared as your child has grown. Or you may be seeking help for a pattern at home that has become difficult to manage.
We can begin with what is happening now. I’ll want to understand your child’s history, the support already received and the moments when you find it hardest to respond as you would like.
Adoption support for East Sussex families
Adoptive families across East Sussex are welcome, including people living in Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings and communities within Wealden and Rother. Around Lewes, this includes Southover, Malling and nearby Ringmer. We consider the needs of the child and the adults caring for them, with attention to the family’s own history and present relationships.
My Brighton practice welcomes families for suitable in-person work. Some support, particularly parent conversations, can be considered online when coming in is difficult. We agree the format first and make sure online discussions take place somewhere quiet and private.
Agreeing the focus before appointments begin
Support may involve a parent discussion, work with a young person or joint sessions. I can explain where DDP or Theraplay-informed work might be relevant and why I am suggesting a particular arrangement.
If an agency or professional is involved, we will need to clarify their role and any information-sharing requirements. This helps everyone understand what the work is intended to address and how it will be reviewed.
Questions about referrals and arrangements
Can we enquire privately?
Yes. You can contact me directly to discuss the support you want. Fees and any proposed arrangement should be agreed before appointments begin.
Can you guarantee funded sessions?
No. Please confirm funding and authorisation with the responsible organisation. We also need to agree whether I can provide the work they propose.
Do you only work with recently adopted children?
No. You can ask about difficulties that emerge later in family life, including during the teenage years. We’ll discuss the individual circumstances and suitability.
Discuss your family and the support proposed
You can explain what is difficult, what has already been tried and any practical questions about attending.
