With over 15 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I have worked with many couples to provide therapy to build a positive relationship. I’m Louise Shuttleworth, and I’ve helped couples looking for therapy, either face to face or via online sessions. I offer specialist psychotherapy for many daily challenges you may be facing. With Couples Therapy, or Relationship Counselling, my aim is to help you with any issues you may have in your relationship with your partner.
You may feel at some stage that you are not getting anywhere with solving problems between the two of you. As a result, it’s understandable that you may feel like you could be on the edge of a breakup. In this situation; couples therapy is a really positive step to help work on the relationship. Unfortunately, many couples see couples therapy as a last resort. However, couples therapy could also be seen as a preventative step to keep a relationship healthy.
I work with many clients across Sussex, and I am a UKCP MBACP Integrative Psychotherapist and AC Psychological Coach. In my private consulting rooms, or via online sessions; I can work with couples to help understand their behaviours towards each other. This helps couples realise where their differences lie.
As a result of my sessions, using couples therapy can help you to understand the positive as well as negative habits you may have in a relationship. The majority of the time couples therapy helps to steer relationships in a positive direction. I create a safe reflective space with practical tools, to support improved communication and create a path to improved intimacy.
It’s completely understandable if taking steps to couples therapy seems like a daunting prospect. It’s also completely normal to find it difficult to open up and talk about your feelings at first. That’s why the initial session should be seen more as an opportunity to see how it feels. You can take your time to open up in a calm and relaxed environment. Plus I can also answer any questions you may have. After the first session, there is never any obligation to continue if you do not feel comfortable.
When working with couples on therapy sessions, the process should always be collaborative. This is because it will help you both understand each other’s problems and help you deal with them in future.
