Online teen counselling

Online teen counselling supports young people with anxiety, low mood, school pressures and difficulties in family or peer relationships through individual video sessions. I help teenagers describe what is happening, explore their feelings and consider choices without having to give an immediate explanation for everything. Parents can receive support alongside the work, while the young person has private time to talk. Based in Brighton, I offer this service across the UK where suitable, with confidentiality, parental involvement and a private setting agreed before we begin.

When attending at home may help

Some young people prefer to speak in familiar surroundings. For others, the benefit is avoiding a journey or making an appointment possible alongside education and family arrangements.

We can discuss the teenager’s preference as well as the practical details. An online appointment needs to feel workable for them, not simply convenient for the adults arranging it.

Privacy needs to be planned

I speak with the teenager alone during their individual time. Before starting, we need to consider who else is at home, whether anyone can hear them and how interruptions will be avoided.

We’ll discuss confidentiality and its limits with the young person and parents. We also need an agreed way to make contact if the connection drops or a concern arises during the appointment.

What the conversation involves

I have worked with teenagers since 2008. Online sessions give us time to explore what has happened during the week, a worry they are finding difficult to manage or a subject they cannot easily raise elsewhere.

I adapt the work to the young person and how they communicate. If the online format makes it harder for them to take part, we can discuss whether a different arrangement is needed.

Questions about video counselling

Do parents stay nearby?

We’ll agree the practical arrangement before starting. The teenager needs privacy during individual work, alongside any arrangements needed for support and safety.

Can a parent have the introductory chat first?

Yes. We can discuss your concern and how to give your teenager a part in deciding whether to attend.

Is a phone enough for the appointment?

Please discuss the available device with me. Clear sound, a stable view and a reliable connection matter, as does somewhere the teenager can sit and talk privately.

Discuss whether online work would suit your teenager

You can ask about the setting and explain any concerns before arranging the first appointment.
