About Louise Shuttleworth
About Louise Shuttleworth: I’m an Integrative Psychotherapist who has been in private practice since 2002, with couples therapy and teen support as my main areas of work. I help people understand the feelings and relationship patterns behind recurring difficulties, including how earlier experiences influence present reactions. My practice also includes adult and child counselling, parenting and adoption support, and clinical supervision. I bring attachment-informed understanding and a reflective approach to the conversation, with appointments in Brighton and online where suitable.

The experience I bring
I have been a psychotherapist in private practice since 2002. My work includes people who contact me directly and referrals from GPs, social services and residential care settings.
Alongside adult and couples work, I have worked with children and young people in educational and NHS settings. That experience informs how I work with families and how I consider the wider relationships around someone who comes for support.
How I am in the room
I’m interested in what you have to say, including the part that might be difficult to admit to yourself. I won’t expect you to present a tidy account or know where to begin.
Relationships are central to my work
Attachment-informed therapy pays attention to how our relationships and earlier experiences affect what we expect of other people. This is relevant to my work with couples, teenagers and families.
I hold Full Practitioner Status in DDP and am a LINK adoption counsellor. I am also an AC Psychological Coach.
Keeping the work useful
I want our conversations to relate to the life you return to after the session. We can consider what you want to change, what you are beginning to understand and what remains difficult.
For some people, that involves practising a different response. For others, it begins with being able to discuss something they have avoided for a long time.
Where we meet
My private consulting rooms are in Brighton. I also work online, which allows people further afield to consider appointments without travelling into the city. If you would like to find out how it feels to talk to me, start with the free 20 minute chat.
Welcoming people across Sussex
My practice welcomes people in Brighton, Lewes, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Chichester. You can find more about adult counselling for Lewes, couples work for Burgess Hill and teen counselling for Haywards Heath in the local pages. I see people at my Brighton consulting rooms, with online support where suitable if attending is difficult. Wherever we meet, the conversation needs privacy and time without interruptions.
