I am a longstanding teen therapy counsellor and I am based in East Sussex. With everything that has been happening in 2020, many of my sessions have now been brought online. Making it far more accessible for many more people to reach out for some assistance and speak to me regularly. Online teenage counselling is a great way of connecting with teenagers as they feel very much more comfortable chatting online than face to face.
I am happy to speak via Zoom, Skype, Facetime or WhatsApp. Whichever works best for you. This also means I can work with teenagers on a nationwide basis – I can now help you wherever you live in the country, if we speak online. And actually many teenagers prefer this and will continue to work with me on this basis, even once things get back to ‘normal’.
Since 2008, I have been providing support to teenagerss in educational, NHS and residential care settings. During this time, I have gathered a variety of tools to support young people ranging from Cognitive Behavioural coaching to offering more creative play tools. I often support those who are waiting on a CAMHS waiting list or their problems are not considered severe enough. Sometimes CAMHS approach me directly or I work in a triage with a psychiatrist and a GP to offer a wrap around approach.
Have you noticed or are concerned about any of the following about your teenager? Are they :
As with adults, my aim is to offer a safe space for young people to voice or express their own feelings. Unlike adults, however, it is not always easy to talk about feelings in an articulate way. So I offer a variety of creative methods too to access these feelings. As well as seeing teenagers, I also spend a lot of time with younger children and the techniques I use are also extremely effective.
I will always involve a carer/parent at the beginning and end of the process. If the issue is of relationship with a parent, then I sometimes suggest parent and child sessions to be integrated into the process. I am a practitioner in a form of attachment support to parents and their children named Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and currently working towards full practitioner status. I am also Theraplay Level one trained. Both of these tools support parents to form improved connections and offer both supportive and practical tools to create this.
