Why self-care is so important?
Hurrah, it feels like the first day of sun and as a lover of Vitamin D, I will be enjoying a few rays.
One of the key themes I see a great deal with depression and anxiety symptoms is a depletion in life’s enjoyments. Sometimes these can be hard to recall and there is little motivation to do them.
One mindfulness tip is to visualise a former happy time can release a little bit of the content neurotransmitter, serotonin.
It can be helpful to think about life in these areas:-
EXERCISE – What do you do to raise your heart rate, reduce stress and help you sleep better?
NUTRITION – Its a huge part of nurture to eat well. How do you honour that in yourself?
SLEEP – Do you have a good sleep routine? When is this upset? What can you do to self soothe?
CHALLENGES – Are you giving yourself new challenges to improve self esteem and a sense of going beyond your comfort zone?
CONNECTIONS – Do you have a network around you? Who can you trust?
A few optional ones might be When do you LAUGH, SING, DANCE again great boosters of the SEROTONIN neurotransmitter.
My pledge to you is to practise what I preach and invest in the above too to ensure that you have the most available and present version of myself.
Enjoy those rays.
